Streljivo EM-1

Advantages

Einsatzmunition Less Lethal rounds are not intended to kill.
Without restrictions in effectiveness, we remained faithful to European approach and try to avoid killings as much as it is technically feasible. Never the less, the necessary kinetic power must be applied.
Our product reduces the contact pressure to a level, where usually no deep skin penetration occurs. The force is comparable to a boxers punch.
As humane as it gets, while successfully conducting a law enforcement action.

- the outer material of our ballistic bag is comparable with a 2 layer advanced bullet proof vest. The bag protects the hitten person and the surroundings by preventing energetic pellets to come through the skin, while employing pharmaceuticals on target. It is just like a firing a bulletproof vest and covering the disturber just before he will be hit by the payload inside the ballistic bag.

- our composite sock has the best kevlar material with utmost fibre strength. To achieve accuracy, kevlar is to stiff. Therefore, bacause of ballistic stabilisation, the Einsatzmunition family has flexible textile in the back. The dense fabric enables that no filler spheres comes out of the ballistic sack and consequently penetrate or hurt anyone more than necessary . When using as a warning shot, Einsatzmunition Less Lethal amunition makes no or very limited destruction in background. We are proud to announce that we managed to eliminate the ricochet effect.

- Our bullet is extremely visible and warns in 2 signal colors. That gives our opposite a last chance to avoid direct impact of the round - to duck and cover.

- EM-1 Less Lethal ammunition sets new standards and represents the best available technology worldwide !

Utilization

Primary application is the defense during ongoing violation or enforcement of appropriate measures in crisis situations.
By aiming and firing against extremities, EM-1 manages to deploy a force which is comparable with the strength of a professional boxer fist punch. This can be accomplished in distances from 2 to 25 m.

Great results are achieved with warning shots when projectile strikes directly next to the disturber causing shock and fear without endangering anyone while causing low colateral damage. Because of these qualities, usage is possible within aircrafts, ships, luxury eqipped rooms etc.

Another advantage is possibility of tactical implementation when EM-1 is used as a „anti-barricade-ammunition“ for dislocation of dangerous or disturbing objects from distance.

EM-1 is very effective in situations when it is very important not to destroy evidences for following forensic investigation. And that is why it is perfect for use in the EOD units eg. with tEODor roboter or other UGV´s, which are equipped with pump-guns and are keeping track of movement of suspicious objects or UAV´s.

It is widely used as ammunition for scarring and antagonizing predators like wolves, bears or boars, even in regions where hunting is prohibited.

In practice, EM-1 has proven to be irreplaceable in situations when vehicles or houses are protected with dark foil or drapery. Projectile perfectly enhancements visibility while minimaly endangers the occupants.

Whenever it is necessary to deploy a warning shot in your own premises, or any environment you have to pay for damaging, with EM-1 ammunition destruction will be low to zero.

Questions and Answers I

What can happen in worst case scenario, what „less-lethal“ means?

Less-Lethal equipment is explicitly designed and developed to incapacitate or repel personel with a low propability of fatality or permanent injury (NATO-definition). This ammunition is called „less lethal“ which means under worst conditions, if a lot of things go wrong, it can be lethal.
Why is your projectile in signal colors?

It is not our intention to kill someone, but to get the attention of the police opposite. If they stop assault in the last moment , while trying to avoid heavy injury, the goal of EM-1 is achieved.

What is that white powder coming out of the projectile?

Our ballistic bag is filled with different pharmaceutical agents, for hemistatic, antiseptic and marking purposes. The hitten person will immedately get the wound desinfected and will be covered with medical herbs even if medical personnel is not accessible
(eg. during a riot).

Why does your round have a significant sound and smell?

It is part of our „show force“ concept, esp. for prison guards.
The intention was that loud gunfire noise, the typical smell of gunpowder, the typical sound of pump-gun while reloading the next round, the scene of a smoking shell rolling over the floor, all together sends very clear information to all involved parties – and the massage is : “The riot will come to an end, right now!”

What will happen with the wound?

Typically the wound hurts badly, sometimes even bones will be broken, and medical aid is mandatory. Of course, the nature of any hematom is to change color, from red to blue and then yellow.
Tipically, it will start to look even worse, but the healing process will be already active and it is going to get better, day by day.

Questions and Answers II

What is that white powder inside my barrel after firing?

The most critical disadvantage of bean bag rounds of generation I and II was, that if gun barrel was oiled (friction reduced), projectile was much too fast and caused irregular damage of the hitten persons. If gun barrel was not oiled, the kevlar damaged the barrels. The redesign in Generation III has removed this threat, and automatically introduced stable friction conditions thanks to the containing agent. This agent is antitoxic, in fact, it contains pharmaceutical powder.

What is that funny confetti in front of the barrel?

Some of our rounds are equipped with AFIS, the anti felon identification system, whereas approx. 24 little colored plates, containing the serial and lot numbers of the cartridge are marking the shooters position for crime scene investigation purposes.

What kind of weapon is possible to use for Einsatzmunition?

Every shotgun of the appropriate caliber will work, in best case a pump-action-shotgun, rifled shotguns, or coach guns with sight. Semiautomatic shotguns will have to be manually operated.

How much kinetic energy will be deployed?

Energy depends on your gun type, barrel length, muzzle devices and other factors. It has to be tested before utilization. EM-1 will usually produce about 150 Joule, EM-2 approx. 200 Joule, while the anti material version EM-3 will occur 2500 Joule.

What will happen if my gun has a choke, pattern dispenser etc.?

Einsatzmunition has been tested with all kinds of muzzle devices, every possible choke type, recoils reducers, muzzle break or pattern dispensers etc. The strength of our ballistic bag and the flexibility of our filling material withstood everything without any damage.

Questions and Answers III

What is the gun configuration for optimimum results?

The perfect gun for EM ammunition we recommend is a pumpgun with rifled barrel (enhanced accuracy) and optical sights. Orange or yellow marking for clear visibility as less lethal would be fine.

What distance is perfect for sight adjustment?

For EM-1 we recommend 15m, for EM-2 we recommend 25m, and for EM-3, a distance of 50m has brought best operational results.

Why is Less Lethal Ammunition of Generation III so much better than older bean bags or simple rubber bullets?

In “stoneage” of less lethal ammunition, just unstabilized rubber bullets were used. First bean bag generation was still unstabilized, it was pillow shaped, made of cotton material. Unfortunately pillow had bad accuracy and sometimes, when hit with edge of the pillow, the probability of causing a very bad wound was high.
Generation II was stabilized and had reproducable accuracy and terminal ballistics, but worse results than a pillow.
In generation III, an improved terminal ballistics flattens the bullet like a pancake (acting more like a slap instead of a full punch). The medical agents inside the ballistic bag were introduced, as well as nontoxic materials in the filler. Increased strength of kevlar fabric, and denser knitting enable warning shots without background endangering und better „show of force“ criterions like weapon sound, gunsmoke odor or increased visibility.

What will happen if demonstrants throw the bullets back?

Nothing will happen, a hand thrown ballistic bag, has not the velocity and kinetic energy to do any harm. Usually the demonstrants just keep the ballistic bags as souvenir, an evidence for police brutality. But that does not work, when they see that just medical agents and biological alpine herbs (chamomile, salvia, hypericum) were used against them.

Questions and Answers IV

Why are there so many different versions of Einsatzmunition?

The standard round is EM-1 which fits for most situations in the police work. Some of our customers wanted a stronger version for longer distance or against really dangerous persons, which is fulfilled by EM-2. In several situations the task is just to brake windows from the distance with reduced background thread, or to fire warning shots that really shows power. That is why EM-3 has been developed.

What is your approach to „lead free“?

The standard round is EM-1 is filled with a special alloy of very soft nontoxic lead composition. For some of our customers also soft iron or soft tungsten will be the right choice. For EM-3 we strongly recommend the soft iron, as most effective.

Has this ammunition shown results against wild animals?

The university BOKU Vienna has made a scientific examination about bears in eastern europe 2013-2018. They concluded that several rounds of EM-1 has to be fired against „brown bears“ up to 300 kg of mass, for optimal self defending results.

What about training rounds?

If you collect the ballistic bags and send them back in good condition, you will receive training rounds at special price.

What makes that round so expensive?

You should consider that it is much, much easier to manufacture a round that kills, than a round that tries not to kill. Low quantities, high technology , european handmade quality by certified mastercrafts (Meisterbetrieb). Main cost driver is the improved ballistic bag, where the stiff and high tensile kevlar material is not cheap to get. Also the tricky development, comprehensive test program and trials generates high costs. On the other hand, calculations have shown, that every person killed by law enforcement agency, costs the administration approx. 2.8 mio. €

Usage Scenarios

Typical users of Gen III Einsatzmunition will be law enforcement units, like police SWAT teams, special forces in military police, anti riot units, prison guards, security checkpoints or monitoring units at critical infrastructure, boarding teams, convoy protection units etc. But it can also be used for EOD purposes as IED mover from safe distance, against wild animals or for home defense.

The typical action scenario can be the „good morning raid“ Danger level low to medium:
A five men SWAT-team will be equipped with 3x assault rifles and 2x pump guns, pistols as backup weapon. Unit is devided in 2 assault teams and one team member to cover the back. First assault team has the option to fire a warning shot inside the room with nearly no danger to persons, to stop the dog, or to fire against extremities, sticks or knives. If things really go wrong, they use less lethal ammo against head bone structure, which the suspect will possibly survive, but with the “headache of his live”.
